In 1969, the Stonewall Riots became an integral part of LGBTQ+ history by creating a demonstration that could not be ignored. Drag Queens, such as Martha P. Johnson, threw the bricks of defense and marched to have their voices heard. Lavender sashes and armbands were worn to signify the power that queer people held by standing together.
Lavendwriter is inspired by that empowerment. We want to amplify voices, bring people together, share stories and art, and help us all feel empowered. Read with us. Write with us. Art with us.
Self-expression is power.

Lowen Oaks is a short fiction writer obtaining their BA in Creative Writing from Southern New Hampshire University - transferred from SUNY Oswego. You can find their work in Necessary Fiction - another great online publication. Lowen strives to take classic tropes and narratives into the modern era by introducing them to more diversity, newer generational perspectives, and overall queerness. In a nutshell: “What if ___ was gay?”
Of course, this is an over-simplification, but they like a little humor as well.
Lowen hopes you enjoy the stories, poetry, art, etc. that Lavendwriter Magazine has to offer!
